The RBI has set a target of opening 800 new bank branches in the state by 2014-15 to cover the localities having 2000 or less population, an official said today. Speaking at Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign General Manager of RBI, Shimla R S Negi said that the RBI had achieved target of financial inclusion after opening bank branches in these having more than 2000 population in year 2012.
"Now RBI is covering villages having less than 2000 census especially places where people have to trek upto 15 to 20 km distance from their home to get banking services...RBI has set a target to open 800 new branches in the state by year 2014-15 to provide banking service of brick and mortar and online banking correspondence facilities," he said.
