Public sector banks (PSB) are estimated to raise Rs 9.60 lakhcrore in 10 years period ending March 2021 assuming loan growth of 20 per cent, said a report by consultancy firm KPMG.
"Assuming an annual credit growth rate from FY12-FY21 at 20 per cent and the annual risk weighted asset growth rate at 22 per cent, ...the Tier-I capital requirement for public sector banks for the same period to be in the range of Rs 9,60,000 crore," the report said.
The government's intent to not dilute their stake leaves them with few options including creation of a holding company (Holdco) and transfer its stake in the PSBs to this company, it said.
